About Me
- Munchie Mommy
- I live in a big city with hubby, Munchie (3) and Bear-Bear (almost 1). I enjoy taking the kids to the park, reading, swimming, singing the alto part to Palestrina masses, and painting.

Vegetables
Munchie was enthralled by the pumpkins at the grocery store and insisted that we buy one. This led to us making a pumpkin pie together, which turned out quite yummy. He made the above comment to me while we were scooping out the seeds. I thought it was pretty observant.
Next lesson: binomial nomenclature.
Phonics
...which is true, when you say it out loud. The English language is a strange thing indeed.
Personal Hygeine
"Spiders will live in your belly button if you don't clean that dirt out."
Aaarghhhh! I will always remember to wash thoroughly from now on!!!! I have no idea where he came up with this one.
Gardening
Daddy: Mommy grew that plant.
Munchie: No, mommy just put it in the dirt. It grew itself.
Silly daddy!
Variations on a Theme: C is for Cookie
Most of my generation is familiar with the Sesame Street classic that Cookie monster sings. (If you're not, or if you'd like to reminisce, you can listen to it here). Munchie's grandma has a Sesame Street DVD featuring this song, and he has been singing it a great deal lately. He has also taken to improvising new verses, for example:
"C is for Fire truck, that's good enough for me!"
Since he doesn't yet read, we will allow for creative spelling, however, he does sometimes get it right, as is evidenced by the following:
"G is for Grandma..."
and my personal favourite:
"G is for Garbage, that's good enough for me!"
Basic Astronomy
"In the day, the sun goes all the way up to the 14th floor. At night, the sun goes down, down, all the way to the sidewalk."
Note: We live on the 14th floor, which is pretty high, even for adults. I suppose when you are 3, that it is practically astronomical. Munchie tends to use the number "14" as a stand in for any very large number.
Welcome!
The purpose of this blog is to record for posterity all the wit and wisdom that emerges from the mouth of my 3-year old son, Munchie. As adults, we have grown used to the world and the way it works, and sometimes it takes the observations of a small child to remind us what a complex and wondrous place it truly is.
For each post, I plan to include a quote from Munchie, and if necessary, an explanation. Munchie has opinions on a wide range of topics, including, but not limited to, science, nature, family life, art, music, cooking, engineering and housekeeping.
Other characters that will appear regularly in this blog include Munchie Mommy (myself), Daddy, and Munchie's baby sister, Bear-Bear.
I hope you will enjoy his musings as much as I do.
